Week One Observations from Julia Price

·      Writing papers jetlagged is difficult.

·      The relationship between cups of tea consumed and quality of writing has yet to be established, though early evidence show there is a direct positive correlation.  More tea must be consumed in order to prove hypothesis.

·      Guinness-themed postcards never cease to be amusing.

·      Dublin has such a ready supply of legendary actors that when one is unable to make a performance, he can be replaced by another in 30 minutes.

·      Dublin actors take public transit just like normal humans.

·      Inability to connect to the internet from one’s bedroom is a crisis, and also means one’s procrastination techniques become more creative rather than being reduced.

·      Postboxes are green.

·      Cabdrivers are excellent tour guides.

·      There are an unsettling number of anti-abortion adverts over here.  Though perhaps since it’s already illegal, the fact that someone feels threatened enough to put start papering public transit and billboards with ABORTION TEARS HER LIFE APART type slogans is a good sign.  Nonetheless my womb feels a bit more policed than usual.

·      Frank McGuinness is a genius.

·      Get an hour out of the Dublin and “Emerald Isle” is an understatement.
